My host computer won't boot up while the expansion unit is connected

Product:  1slot, 2slot, 4slot, 6slot, 7slot and 13slot Expansion  with PCIHIF68 host card or Express Host Card
Computer: Server / Desktop / Workstation / PC / Mac
Operating System:  Windows / Linux / Mac

 

Problem:
Computer hangs on boot while Magma is attached
Computer won't post while the Magma is attached.
Once you disconnect the the Magma the computers boots up ok.

 

 

For troubleshooting do the following:

Shutdown the Computer and Magma Unit
1. Do the following:
a. Reseat the Magma Host Interface card
b. reseats the Cable. or Clean both cable end connectors with solvent
alcohol using a soft bristle brush
c. reseats all PCI cards in the chassis
* Power on the Magma first and then Computer
* If problem persist, proceed to 2

 

Shutdown the Server and Magma unit
2. move the Host card to another slot.
If problem persist, proceed to 3

 

Shutdown the Server and Magma unit

3. Remove all third party PCI Cards in the Magma unit
* Power on the Magma first, then computer.
* If the computer boots up ok, this means the root problem is the 3rd
party PCI Card. Your Next step is to plug-in all 3rd party PCI Cards one
at a time. Or replace them all with known working 3rd Party PCI cards.
* If problem persist, proceed to, proceed to 4

 

Shutdown the Server and the Magma unit

4. Try another Computer. Connect the Magma unit to another Computer server
and observe if this shows the same problem. If it works, this means the
problem is not with the Magma unit but with the computer itself.

* If problem persist, proceed to 5

 

Shutdown the Server and the Magma unit
5. Swap the Magma Host Interface card.
* If the computer boots up ok, this means the root problem is the
original Host Interface Card
* If problem persist, proceed to 6

 

Shutdown the Server and the Magma unit
6. Swap the Magma Cable
* If the computer boots up ok, this means the root problem is the
original cable
* If the problem persists, proceed to 7

 

Shutdown the Server first, then Magma unit
7. Swap the expansion unit.
* If the computer boots up fine, this means the root problem is the
original expansion chassis.
