PC Computer hangs on boot with more than 2 ProTools cards in the PCI expansion chassis

Last Updated: Sep 29, 2016 05:13PM PDT

Product: PCIe-to-PCI expansion unit
Computer: PC
Operating System: Windows7
Application: ProTools HD

Problem:
PC Computer hangs on boot with more than 2 ProTools HD cards that are installed in the chassis.
*With two protools Cards, computer boots up fine.
*Works with the old G5 using the same chassis, host card and all protools Cards, except when using with this new PC computer running Windows7.

For troubleshooting do the following:
1. Add a simple PCI card such as Ethernet card in the Magma chassis along with two ProTools cards installed, see if the computer would boot up fine.
2. Update / Tweak the Bios
3. Use different motherboard
4. Try reinstalling the OS, see if it would behave or exhibit the same problem.

Solution:
Customer was able to fix the problem by tweaking the BIOS, see  actual feedback from customer:

.......We spoke earlier today on the phone about my expansion chassis only booting with 2 PT HD cards.  Well I got to thinking.  You mentioned that the issue might be with BIOS PCI resource addressing.  So I disable the onboard E-SATA controller.  BINGO!!!!  HD3 is now up and running........
