PCI Card comes up with error code 12 when using ExpressCard to PCI expansion

Last Updated: Oct 25, 2016 11:27AM PDT

Product: ExpressBox with ExpressCard
Computer: Laptop
Operating System: Windows XP
Application: PCIe card

Problem: Code 12 on PCIE Card

Explanation:

The PCI bus provides two main address spaces for transactions, I/O and Memory. Memory is divided into two types Normal and Pre-fetchable. The BIOS is responsible for assigning I/O and Memory address space to the devices using the PCI (or PCI-Express) bus for communication.

For instance the laptop platform that you are using is not assigning a large enough address space to the ExpressCard slot for the PCIE card this would definitely generate error code 12

This is not an uncommon problem with Laptop BIOS.

Solution:

To fix this we have developed a bus filter driver that works with the OS to reconfigure the PCI address space. See attached
