Support Log Collection for ioVDI

Affected Versions
  • ioVDI 1.0

Overview
The following log files are required for customer support:
# represents a system-generated number
  • vme2_support_#######.tar.gz (Management Server / Virtual Appliance logs)
  • ESX_##############.###.###.zip (Host logs)
  • VM_#####_####_XXXX.cab (Guest logs if issue is guest based)
  • vmware_support.log (VMware ESXi logs from the host or hosts experiencing error)
  • fio-bugreport (if Fusion-io card is the SSD source)

Other logs may be required and should be included if they apply
  • ION
  • ioControl

In an engagement with Fusion-io technical support,the majority of these logs will be required to root cause an issue. Please make every effort to provide every log listed above at the time of filing a ticket, as that will help speed up your time to resolution.

Collecting VMware specific logs

Collecting Management Server / Vitual Appliance Logs

1.  Log in to the ioVDI management server
2.  Enter the following commandiovdi ms --support
3.  The console will displayGet Management Support task got successfully submitted, This may take several minutes to complete.Wrote /var/lib/vme/sub/vme2_support_##############.tar.gz
4. The above message is followed bySupport log is available at location :http://<ip address of server>/sub/vme2_support_#############.taqr.gz
5.  Using a web browser, enter the address displayed by the console like the example above and your browser should connect and download the file.


 

Collecting Host Logs

1.  Log in to the ioVDI management server
2.  Enter the following commandiovdi vcenter -ln -va <ip address or FQDN of vCenter Server> -vu <Admin user of vCenter>The following will appear on the consoleLogged in to VMP: some ip address or FQDN
3.  Enter the following command
iovdi host -sp -vh <ip or FQDN of host>
The following will appear on the consoleGetting Host Support on <IP Address> was successfully submitted. This task may take several minutes to complete.Errorcode: 0Getting Host Support on <IP Address> successfully completedhttp://xxx.xxx.xx.xx/sub/ESX_#############_###.###.#.#.zip
4.  Using a web browser, enter the address displayed by the console like the example above and your browser should connect and download the file.


 

Collecting Guest Logs

1.  Log in to the ioVDI management server
2.  Enter the following commandiovdi vcenter -ln -va <ip address or FQDN of vCenter Server> -vu <Admin user of vCenter>The following will appear on the consoleLogged in to VMP: some ip address or FQDN
3.  Enter the following command
iovdi guest -sp - gu < admin user name > (optional -gp <admin password> ) -np <name pattern to match VMs>
The following will appear on the consoleGetting Guest Support on <name of VM> was successfully submitted. This task may take serveral minutes to complete.Errorcode: 0Getting Guest Support on <name of VM> successfully completedhttp://<ip address or FQDN of ioVDI server>/sub/VM_########_#######_XXX.cab
4. Using a web browser, enter the address displayed by the console like the example above and your browser should connect and download the file.
