Initial configuration ( 4.0.0)

Last Updated: Mar 16, 2018 11:12AM PDT
When the ION system boots for the first time, verify the following settings and make any changes necessary:

NOTE: The system is running in read-only mode, and any of the following configuration changes made with the CLI will not persist across a reboot of the system.

1. Log in to the ION server console as user admin with the password admin

2. At the console prompt, check the time settings on the host by entering time:get
Using the time:update command you can change the following settings:
– date
– time
– timezone
– NTP servers

These settings can be changed one at a time (see "Changing ION system settings" on
page 21) or all at the same time using a command similar to this:

time:update --ntp ntp1.corporation.com --date 2016-12-16 --time 09:33:00
--timezone America/Chicago

3. At the console prompt, check the DNS servers and gateway setting for the Ethernet
management network by entering network:get
Using the network:update command you can change the following settings:
– gateway
– DNS servers
These settings can be changed one at a time (see "Changing ION system settings" ) or all at the same time using a command similar to this:
network:update --dns 10.101.10.10 --dns 10.101.10.11 --dns 10.111.1.3
--gateway 10.55.1.3

4. At the console prompt, check the node configuration by entering node:list -dl
Using the node:update command you can change the following settings:
– domain name

If all of the settings for the ION system are satisfactory, you can begin provisioning
storage in the ION system.

Additional configuration in promiscuous mode

When ION runs in promiscuous mode, the following objects are set by default:
• Networking (set by DHCP)
• Hostports
• Storageports (automatically detected on local InfiniBand/SRP hardware)

The only additional configuration task required in order to begin accessing ION storage
is to create a pool and a volume. After creating a volume, LUNs will automatically be
created
